layla went to the vet's today.
she is 7.9 lbs. a little on the small side
but healthy.
she behaved very well. nothing much
seems to upset her. she is great with an active
2 year old little girl, that much i know!
bob checked out the cat carrier when layla
came back
not sure why, but they are both playing
so maybe he missed her!
my vet said she just adopted a puppy
from ANIMAL FRIENDS. she
recommends them. so do i.

not sure if i will be babysitting tomorrow.
i've cleaned up the toys and the tiny fingerprints.
bob has come out of hiding. layla is not bothered
by having a 2 year old running amuck. she takes
everything in stride.
the house is quiet. i miss the giggles and shrieks of laughter!
some we jump over or go round
some make us stronger as we break through
a feat of strength
determination wins out
we congratulate each other on
making it another day another month
another year or two.
barriers of our own making
we build them up
just to tear them down
and feel like we've accomplished something.
these are some of the "stones" that i make from concrete.
i've made some with bit's of broken stained glass in them, just
to see how it would look before going on to more complex
patterns. these are some in front of my house. when it rains
the colors are very bright. i've packed up my forms and tools
til next spring. it's too cold for me to be mucking around with
wet concrete and buckets of water and the garden hose! brrrrrr!!!!

little 2 year old grandkid here all day. we had BIG fun,
but wow, i am NOT as young as i once was.
we played and went outside and took a walk . then
i made mac and cheese with broccoli in it for her lunch.
my niece stopped by with her new dog. a sweet older dog
named buddy, a beagle(i love beagles, grew up with them ).
now, i'm doing laundry and thinking about a nice HOT bath.
soak these old bones! ha! ; )
The Old Dust
The living is a passing traveler;
The dead, a man come home.
One brief journey betwixt heaven and earth,
Then, alas! we are the same old dust of ten thousand ages.
The rabbit in the moon pounds the medicine in vain;
Fu-sang, the tree of immortality,
has crumbled to kindling wood.
Man dies, his white bones are dumb without a word
When the green pines feel the coming of the spring.
Looking back, I sigh;
Looking before, I sigh again.
What is there to prize in the life's vaporous glory?
Translated by:Shigeyoshi Obata
moments in life are not the advertised ones, not
the birthdays, the graduations, the weddings,
not the great goals achieved. The real milestones are
less prepossessing. They come to the door of
memory unannounced, stray dogs that amble in,
sniff around a bit and simply never leave. Our
lives are measured by these

i forgot that there was a picture
of layla on the animal friend's site.
so , tah dah, here she is!
see why i changed her name to layla?
she deserves to be named after a girl so
beautiful that clapton wrote a song about her.
i was a nervous wreck, i had to go out and so
bob and layla were by themselves for the first time
but they seem to have gotten along well.
they say it's your birthday
your years peeled away
hopes uneven and torn
left layers of scar tissue
a topographical map
highs and lows
a life rolled up
HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY
and stashed in the dark
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TO YOU
multicolored candles drip
waxy pools in frosting
sweeter than the years
a knife cuts big pieces.
the crumbs, i gather with my forefinger.
they had been separated before this and poked
their paws under the closed door at each other
checking each other out.
layla is used to other cats. she was in a big room
at the shelter playing freely with a lot of cats but bob
has been here with only people since he was 2 months old.
layla has been checking out every nook
and cranny here while bob follows behind quite
interested and puzzled.
layla has softly hissed at him a few times and raised
a paw but no big fights as yet. bob backs quickly off
even tho he is twice her size.
i've got my fingers crossed.

bob now has a friend!
her name is layla and she is just a sweetie.
i had gone to the one shelter to see the cat i
had seen on -line BUT she has an upper respiratory
infection and has 10 days to go on antibiotics.the poor
little dear was sneezing and had a very runny nose and eyes
and naturally i was concerned about bob and spreading it to him.
they tried to assure me that i would be ok and that i could just
give her the meds myself and keep them away from each other.
i called my vet who said, "no way." so i went instead to animal friends
which is quite a ways from my place but boy was i glad!
their new building is beautiful. it is very, very clean and
the animals there all seem well cared for and the paperwork
and records look to be quite well done.
anyway, i have layla here in one room so that she and bob can
get to know each other slowly and i have an appt. with my vet at the end of the month.
layla was abandoned and in poor shape, but she is fine now.
she is sort of a tortie/calico mix. short hair looks like she was
swished around in brown, black, gold and white paint that was floating on top
of the water. she has 1 golden eye, the other was lost to her and the vet sewed
it shut.
she is much smaller than bob, supposed to be around 2 years of age.
i named her LAYLA because i told her she was beautiful enough
to have a song
named for her!!!
in a few days when she feels more at ease, i will take her picture and then
post it for you all to see how sweet she is.

this poem is a masterpiece, by li po, and i
post this as a token to my best friend.
Alone and Drinking Under the Moon
Amongst the flowers I
am alone with my pot of wine
drinking by myself; then lifting
my cup I asked the moon
to drink with me, its reflection
and mine in the wine cup, just
the three of us; then I sigh
for the moon cannot drink,
and my shadow goes emptily along
with me never saying a word;
with no other friends here, I can
but use these two for company;
in the time of happiness, I
too must be happy with all
around me; I sit and sing
and it is as if the moon
accompanies me; then if I
dance, it is my shadow that
dances along with me; while
still not drunk, I am glad
to make the moon and my shadow
into friends, but then when
I have drunk too much, we
all part; yet these are
friends I can always count on
these who have no emotion
whatsoever; I hope that one day
we three will meet again,
deep in the Milky Way.

SAVE DARFUR
http://www.savedarfur.org/content?splash=yes
i signed this petition via BLUE GAL'S blog
it's about the separation of church and state.
i have always believed it protects faith from
government meddling. please take a look and if
you agree, then sign. thanks, s
http://www.firstfreedomfirst.org/
i sign petitions and send them on to family and friends
sometimes i get teased, sometimes i piss off a few, but
i figure, it's a few mouse clicks and keystrokes,
how hard is that, how long does it take?? little things add up.
it's a start. sherry
every now and then something happens that
restores my faith that there are some really nice
people out there.
a man i know approached me last night at the club
( he's a nice man, i talk to him a lot, when i see him . )
i belong to and gave me 100.00 to put toward the
scholarship fund that i help out with. he gave 100.00 last year
as well. he donates it in memory of his late brother-in-law
and always makes the point that it is from his whole family.
this man and his wife are very nice people. they do not
have to do this, but they choose to, and i, and i know
the winners of the scholarships thank him even tho they do
not know him or his family.
the fact that he does this and says he will continue as
he is able make me think that things aren't so bad and
kindness does still exist. my thanks to him and his family.

i've written of this group in the past
last night 3 representatives of this organization
were on a local program, updating their work.
most people know that i like many, support our troops
and in fact, know a few (who doesn't?) but
no surprise here, i am not happy
about the current events. please, our troops
deserve all that we can do. they need things like this
i wish that they didn't, but life is not what we wish it to be,
so take a moment please, and have a look at this very
worthwhile project. thanks so much. sherry

hi, back again. went away to a car cruise and oldies show at
at linden hall. the weather was beautiful.
they had the stage set up on a hole on the beautiful golf course there.
there was an oldies dance the night before. i danced a few, but
they are big into cha chas and such and i can't really do those.
there were a bunch of us there and we sat and laughed and said hi to
people we haven't seen in a year or two. i had a few white russians and a shot of
yukon jack as a night cap. i do not sleep much and even less
on those few occasions i am away. i thought i might with the yukon, but
no. thankfully the small hotel there has cable! i watched news shows and infomercials!
the steel workers union owns the property. it has a beautiful mansion on the grounds
that used to belong to a coal and coke baron, philip cochran. the whole estate was 785 acres!!!
the concert was very good. the dubs and the four townsmen really sounded great and
i've liked the jaggerz for years. johnny angel and the halos is a local group, very well known, but
the best thing about them(because they sound a little too "las vegasy" for my taste, sorry to all their many, many fans) is the addition of the guy from the marcels. i think his name is kenny mitchell. HE just rocked!!!
they had food booths set up. i of course, had dessert for dinner, warm homemade
apple pie with vanilla ice cream on top! EXCELLENT!!!!
so now i'm back, let the games begin...!!!!! ; )

The very first ever Blonde GUY joke.....
And well worth the wait !!!!
An Irishman, a Mexican and a Blonde Guy were doing construction work on scaffolding on the 20th floor of a building. They were eating lunch and the Irishman said, "Corned beef and cabbage! If I get corned beef and cabbage one more time for lunch, I'm going to jump off this building." The Mexican opened his lunch box and exclaimed, "Burritos again! If Iget burritos one more time I'm going to jump off, too." The blonde opened his lunch and said, " Bologna again! If I get a bologna sandwich one more time, I'm jumping too."The next day, the Irishman opened his lunch box, saw corned beef and cabbage, and jumped to his death. The Mexican opened his lunch, saw a burrito, and jumped, too. The blonde guy opened ! his lunch, saw the bologna and jumped to his death as well.
At the funeral, the Irishman's wife was weeping. She said, "If I'd known how really tired he was of corned beef and cabbage, I never would have given it to him again!" The Mexican's wife also wept and said, "I could have given him tacos or enchiladas! I didn't realize he hated burritos so much."Everyone turned and stared at the blonde's wife. The blonde's wife said,
"Don't look at me. He makes his own lunch "

take a moment to think about all the changes
over the years and thank the unions. think of what your life
might be like had they not come into being. i know that had
the unions not come about my grandfather would NEVER have
made enough to improve his families life as time went on
or for my parent's finances to improve or for our family
to even consider the education that my daughter was able to
acquire. yes, we all, from my grandparents on thru the years
to my daughter had to sacrifice and plan well, but without the unions,
the betterment of each succeeding generation would never have been possible.

the grass is greening up but there is a flood
watch out for streams and creeks, not good!
coming home last night, there were places on the road
that had standing water so, me, being an overly cautious
( read phobic)driver, i'm going under the speed limit of 45
because i don't want to hit those low areas that i KNOW will be
covered in a few inches of standing water. so naturally i get
some ass in a big BIG SUV, high beaming me and tailgating
almost all the way home. he actually sort of fishtailed twice
because of his hitting the water. what an idiot! it's 11 p.m.
what was so freaking important that he had to tailgate cause i'm doing
40 instead of 45? just my rant! s

The Boxer (5:07) P. Simon, 1968
I am just a poor boy Though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance For a pocketful of mumbles
Such are promises All lies and jests Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy In the company of strangers
In the quiet of the railway station Running scared Laying low,
seeking out the poorer quarters Where the ragged people go
Looking for the places only they would know
Lie la lie...
Asking only workman's wages I come looking for a job
But I get no offers Just a come-on from the whores on Seventh Avenue
I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there
Lie la lie...
Then I'm laying out my winter clothes And wishing
I was gone Going home Where the New York City winters
aren't bleeding me, Leading me, going home.
In the clearing stands a boxer And a fighter by his trade
And he carries the reminders Of every glove that laid him down
Or cut him till he cried out In his anger and his shame
"I am leaving, I am leaving" But the fighter still remains
Lie la lie...
